One Eno Archibong Emah, of ikot Eman Itam, Akwa Ibom State, has been arrested for selling her baby for just N400,000.
The baby boy who was said to be delivered by the woman around November 2017, was sold to one Kate who resides in Aba, Abia state.
According to reports, Eno conspired with one Emmanuel Akpabio Okon and Emem Asuquo Okon and sold the one-month old child to Kate at the cost of N 400,000.
Operatives of Akwa Ibom State Police Command monitored and promptly arrested the mother of the child who later led the Operatives to the arrest of other accomplices that are involved in the illicit trade.
They are: Utibe Sunday John, Imo Ime Udoetuk, Friday John Amiang, and Uwana Ime, who all confessed to the crime and their individual roles in the offence, including how the proceeds where shared amongst themselves.
In another related news, a couple, Adeola and Binta Adebayo, has been arrested in Lagos for allegedly operating a baby factory.
The couple was arrested on Sunday by operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) in Ikeja Lagos, following a tip-off from a journalist.
According to state Police Commissioner, Edgal Imohimi, the suspects usually harbored young pregnant women at their 1, Treasure Palace Close, off Hand of Fair Bus Stop, Ikotun-Igando Road residence.
The Commissioner said the suspects, Adeola and Binta Adebayo usually sold the children to their clients after the young women had been delivered to the babies without the mothers’ consent.
“During the raid, three young women were rescued. They were – Favour Osikwemeh, 19, (six months pregnant), Precious Emmanuel, 27, (seven months pregnant), and Onome Oputi, 25, (nine months pregnant). The victims will be handed over to National Agency for the Prohibition in Persons (NAPTIP) for care while the couple will be handed over for possible prosecution.”
